Born on Christmas eve, 1923 on Seventeenth and Tioga Street, in Philadelphia,
PA.
Note 1: Father Tom Kelley was added to the Philadelphia North East Catholic High
school Hall of Fame at their 60th reuion on March 12, 2002. A graduate of NECHS
in 1941, Father Tom was also a graduate of St. Martin of Tours Parish and joined
the Oblates Priesthood in 1941. He taught at North East Catholic and Bishop
Duffy High school in Niagra Falls, NY. During his academic tenure, he taught
Physics and Math and served as director of athletics and coached baseball.
During his 28 years of military service, he served as Navy chaplain twenty of
those with the US Marine Corp. Father Kelley served at home and abroad,
distinguishing himself as the longest serving chaplain in the history of the
Marine Corp. He has received several awards during his career, including the
Lgion of Merit and two Navy Commendations, the General Turner Award for
exceptional service to the third marine division and the Pro Ecclesia et
Pontifice Medal for Exemplary service to the Catholic church during 50 years as
a Priest/Chaplain.
